Solicitor or Legal Executive – Marine Department – Plymouth

The Marine Department is looking to recruit an experienced civil litigator of 3+ years PQE. Previous marine experience is preferred but not as essential as a desire to develop an expertise in this niche area. The successful applicant will have excellent research and analytical skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will be passionate about the marine sector and servicing our wide portfolio of marine clients. Work is predominantly wet shipping and includes P&I and Defence work, Admiralty work including collisions, pollution and total losses, as well as some non-contentious work.
The Marine Department takes a forward-thinking approach to training, which has included obtaining sailing qualifications and attending training to become qualified commercial fishermen. The Department considers that the key to empowering staff is to give them tools to help them excel professionally.
The Department has clients and friends throughout the industry and considers it an important element of the business to regularly attend and support relevant Shows, such as the various Boat Shows, Seaworks and the Fishing Expos, as well as support British Marine at director and committee level. The suitable candidate must be outgoing and enjoy networking by representing the Department at events in the UK and abroad, as well as taking the time to regularly engage with our clients building new and existing client relationships.
The Department is based in an office with parking overlooking the busy Barbican in Plymouth, which provides stunning views of the pleasure and commercial vessels going about their business. The position offered is full time. An element of remote working will be considered.

Solicitor and/or Legal Executive – Private Client – Kingsbridge
Due to the continuing growth of our Private Client department, we are looking for additional fee earners to join our experienced team.
This is a full time post and the ideal candidate will:
- be able to demonstrate excellent client care skills;
- be able to work harmoniously within the team;
- be able to manage a varied caseload (to include the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, tax planning, estate administration and Court of Protection work);
- be enthusiastic and willing to engage in the business development of the department;
- be able to demonstrate consistent fee earning; and
- be STEP Qualified and have SFE membership – however, this is not essential and training is generally available for the right candidate.

Solicitor / Chartered Legal Executive – Dispute Resolution
In order to continue the growth of our Dispute Resolution department, we are looking to recruit an experienced qualified lawyer to work across a varied caseload under the supervision of Ian Spencer, Director and Head of the Dispute Resolution department and other senior members in the team.
The department has a wide variety of disputes including, commercial litigation, commercial property litigation, property litigation, contentious trusts and probate and construction disputes. There would be the opportunity to specialise in one or more of these areas and grow that area.
This full-time, permanent role is based within the firm’s Kingsbridge office and the successful candidate would be expected to work predominantly from this office with some flexibility to work remotely or from our other offices.
Experience: Applications are encouraged from Solicitors/Legal Executives of around 5 or more years PQE or equivalent experience (working as a case handling paralegal in dispute resolution pre-qualification would be included).
The ideal candidate will:
- have significant knowledge and experience of litigation within the County Courts and / or the High Court;
- have experience of some or all of the following areas:
- commercial landlord and tenant disputes
- commercial litigation including JVA disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes
- disputes concerning easements/restrictive covenants including injunctive proceedings, boundary disputes, adverse possession and property damage claims
- Residential Possession claims
- Contentious trusts and probate disputes
- Construction disputes
