Bartons’ Marine Team Retain Legal 500 Top Tier Ranking
Bartons solicitors’ Marine team has again secured its ranking in the prestigious legal directory, The Legal 500 UK 2020. The directory analyses the capabilities of law firms across the world and undertakes comprehensive research with clients and peers to rank applicants.
Leading Individuals and Rising Stars
The Marine team is delighted to be ranked in the South West by the Legal 500 UK as a top tier firm in shipping, with Head of Department, Joanne Pummery, being the only solicitor in the South West to be ranked as a ‘leading individual’ for the 6th year running.
The Marine team is extremely pleased that barrister, Tristan Harwood has been ranked as a ‘rising star’, reflecting his hard work and dedication since joining the Marine team in 2018. Tristan, who has an MSC in Marine Safety, has been promoted to Associate and is described by the Legal 500 UK as a ‘key figure’ in the Marine team. He specialises in defending prosecutions, largely in relation to fishery offences. As a lifelong sailor, he is equally comfortable dealing with a wide range of civil disputes on behalf of individuals and insurers regarding almost any marine related matter.
Team Growth
The Marine team has recently welcomed back barrister, Alistair Tawse, who has a degree in Marine Navigation and extensive sailing experience. Combining his substantial experience of law and the sea and having a comprehensive understanding of the costs and risks of litigation, Alistair’s priority is to provide high-quality advice and a cost-efficient service to all marine businesses, insurers and private individuals alike.
Consistent Recognition
In 2018, the Marine team was selected by the Legal 500 UK, following its comprehensive research into the UK legal market, to win best Regional Transport firm, beating seven other shortlisted national firms, including Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP, Weightmans LLP and DLA Piper.
In 2019, the Marine team has been shortlisted in the Excellence in Client Service category for The Law Society’s prestigious Excellence Awards 2019, the highest accolade for law firms in England and Wales. The Law Society President, Simon Davis said: “There are more than 140,000 solicitors in England and Wales – to be shortlisted for an Excellence Award is to be recognised as among the very best of the profession.”. Winners are announced at The Law Society’s Excellence Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on 23 October 2019.
